JAIRO BENITEZ
This colombian artist with syrian/lebanese roots born on April 24, 1982. He consider himself to be born in the middle of a middle class family that was involve in a society with strongs social and cultural changes. From early age he discover a deep fascination for art. At the age of 14 he discover something that strongly change his life: the guitar.Since then, his link with music was complete.
At the beginning, traditional latinoamerican folk inspire him with influences like Silvio Rodrigez, Pablo Milanes, Facundo Cabral, Mercedes Sosa, Piero and others.His destiny was not clear until he had the opportunity of going to other country: He consider Barcelona as a new place for living. Barcelona was recognized as a point of cultural development and musicians, painters, poets and artists of all kinds go there just for get into this bohemian atmosphere.
One of the things that he discovered there was the “art of playing at the streets” and is something that he always was proud to defend.
At the beginning he started to play at the underground, but after the decided to play at the streets and tourists had the change of enjoy his particular way of play classic music.
His ambition to expand musical and cultural knowledge push him to make some trips around countries like France, Luxembourg, Belgium, Holland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Liechtenstein, Austria, Italy and Greece equipped only with a guitar and a small amplifier while he offers street performances wherever they went.
As part of his personal growth, he made trips over countries like Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia and Venezuela. Just coming back of these trips and internalizing what he realize, he decided to study languages like russian, french and german. The close contact with Taoist beliefs introduces him to study chinese.
The need for further musical studies led him to study in a musical school helping him to develop as a classic guitar player. He was part of the first edition of PLAYING FOR CHANGE, participating with extraordinary perfomances of classical guitar on improvised scenes on the streets of Barcelona.
One of the things about why he was so near with latin music is because somehow, he always wanted to keep alive his latin roots. Then his other passion appear: the Cuban Tres.
The particular sound of this instrument charmed him to the point of consider his main instrument. He used to be part of many musical projects that bring him to experience in styles such as jazz, flamenco, hip hop, bossanova, soul, tecno and more.
He still wanted to feed his musical level and that is why he decided to enter in the modern school of music of jazz TALLER DE MUSICS (Barcelona), which help him to intensify in jazz concepts and in his particular way of understanding music.
Often trips around Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia, Romania, Morocco, Turkey, Russia, Slovenia, Bosnia i Herzegovina, Croatia, United States and Bulgaria were important in focusing his identity as a musician.
After many years without returning to Colombia he decided to go back, bringing with him a lot of accumulated knowledge of his experiences outside of his country, having the opportunity of mixing all this new musical ideas he brought from europe with traditional caribbean folklore.
Back in europe, he joined with several projects until he became part of OCHO PUNTO G. Many tours around Morroco put him in contact with native morrocans and african musician. during these trips he matured as a profesional musician.
He didnt know about borders, touring in distant countries such as Kazasthan with cuban singer Alexander Acosta (ex-singer of orquestra Revé). During his stay on that country, he get in touch with musicians from kazasthan, Azerbaijan and Turkey learning about their traditional folklore and appreciating the way of understanding music in those countries, sharing stage with singer like Namiq Qasimov and the famous kazak singer Gauhar Satarova.
Returning to Barcelona, he is part of many musical projects, emphasizing all his work always in grow up as a musician but also as a person.
On may of 2011 he had the opportunity of sharing stage with the great Israelian trumpet player Yacov Amar in Munich (Germany) during his tour by europe.
On June 2011 he worked with his jazz trio playing the whole summer in HOTEL TOPLICE (Cesta Svodobe 12 4260 Bled, Slovenia).
On july 2011 he participated in workshops arranged by Milan Nikolic (recognized contrabass player who has collaborated with recognized jazz musicians around europe) improving in his jazz vocabulary.
On august 2011 he toured with the band DIRTY SANCHEZ (world music mixed with Balkan rhythms) in SAINT GALLEN ETNO MUSIC FESTIVAL (Saint Gallen, Switzerland).
During spring 2012 he worked as a musician playing every weekend with CAIMAN VERDE traditional cuban music in GREEN GOLD CLUB (Radnicka cesta 52 Zagreb, Croatia).
On july 2012 he toured with Ricardo Luque and La Sonora Tropical around the croatian coast on cities like Sibenik and Split. On the following months he made many tours with OCHO PUNTO G (featuring Lazaro Cachao at the piano) around some morrocan cities.
Again in february 2013 he shared stage with Ricardo Luque y La Sonora Tropical in LISINSKI (the most well-know concert hall in Croatia). In march of 2013 he has toured with Ricardo Luque in Bosnia i Herzegovina.
On summer 2013 he toured with Zagreb Philharmonic Orquestra, Ricardo Luque and the cuban singer Olvido Castellano around many croatian cities like Brijuni island, Zadar, Sibenik and Zagreb.
On august 2013 he realized a summer season working as a musician in RADISSON BLUE HOTEL (Na moru 1 Dubrovnik, Croatia) with KUBAN SERVICE performing 42 concerts.
On september 2013 he realized a tour with CHAMI COOL y LA FAMA JAM around Serbia, sharing stage with MANU CHAO in his concert performed in Belgrade (capital of Serbia).
On september 2013 he realized a tour with DAVOR FERENCIC and JAZZALCOLIC TRIO around many cities in south of Croatia.
On november 2013 he participated as a special guest in the recording on the new single of the venezuelan singer RICARDO LUQUE in MORRIS STUDIO (Preradoviceva ulica 32 10000 Zagreb, Croatia).
On January 2014 he toured with CHAMI COOL y LA FAMA JAM around Liverpool, Manchester and some other cities in England.
On february 2014 he toured with ZAGREB PHILHARMONIC ORQUESTRA doing performances in Zagreb (Croatia), Novi Sad (Serbia) and Belgrade (Serbia).
On february 2015 he started a tour by Morroco for several months participating with many musical projects around.
On summer 2014 he worked as musician, Dj and artistic producer in CRTA WINE AND COCKTAILS (Ulica Nikola Tesla 12 Zagreb, Croatia).
On July 2015 he went to London (England) for doing some concerts with SON 4 (traditional cuban music) in BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB (19 Landor road London, England).
On August and September 2015 he worked as a musician doing concerts every night in BAHARI LOUNGE AND BEACH BAR (Podluka 21 21320 Baska Voda, Croatia.
On October 2015 he offer several musicotheraphy sessions in GLAZBAONICA LJUBAV (OZ Izidora Krsnjavoga Zagreb, Croatia) fo children between 3 and 7 years.
On November 2015 he went to India for study an intense course of traditional indian music in SARASWITE MUSIC SCHOOL (Mainiyo ka chowk, Badi Basti 305022 Puskhar Rajasthan, India) preparing himself and working with indian musicians in many musical projects around.
On December 2015 he went on a tour with OCHO PUNTO G in Ireland, having performances in cities like Dublin, Navan, Clifden, Limerick and Galway.
On March 2016 he went to Chicago (Illinois) for doing some performances with HUMBOLDT PARK ORQUESTRA playing Puerto Rican salsa style.
On July 2016 he went to Luxembourg in a tour with CALLE SOL (a band of world music from Barcelona).
On April 2017 he went to Portugal in a tour with JAZZ EXPERIMENT TRIO playing in cities like Lisbon, Oporto, Lousada and Braga, also he made some jazz recording in SOUND ROOM STUDIO (CENTRO COMERCIAL STOP STOP 4050 Oporto, Portugal).
On July 2017 he played with ALEX RAMIREZ from Peru (winner of the contest VIÑA DEL MAR 2015) in his european tour.
On july 2017 he went in a tour with SUPER SPANISH COMBO playing in many french cities.
On august and september 2017 he worked as a musician doing concerts every night with FLAMENCO DUO PROJECT in LES ROCHES ROUGES (90 boulevard de la 36 division Texas, Saint-Raphael, Cote d'Azur, France).
On september 2017 he participated as a special guest in the recording of the first album of the polish singer MARTA TOREBKO called ANTRUM in C2 STUDIO (Obodrzycka 61, wjazd od Dziadozsanskiej Poznan, Poland).
On March 2018 he went on a tour with Elton Jimenez (ex-singer from LOS GIGANTES DEL VALLENATO) doing concerts in Torino (Italy), Milano (taly), Genova (Italy), Peruggia (Italy), Madrid (Spain), Frankfurt (Germany) and Brussels (Belgium).
Actually he lives in Barcelona where he is improving in many musical projects, doing as a music producer, arranger and many other things being active in the musical scene of Barcelona.
He has toured in countries like Spain, France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Morroco, Kazasthan, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia i Herzegovina, Serbia, England, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal, Poland, United States and India.

He is a talentive musician recognized as a arranger and multi-instrumentist, his virtuosity in instruments like electric upright bass, electric six strings bass, electric guitar, classical guitar, tres cubano, tiple colombiano, congas, bongoes, pandeiro and all kind of traditional latin percussion that make him a complete musician.
